 About the Symposium

This powerful education day is all about stepping out of the box!  You will learn fabulous cutting techniques to change up your usual skill set, and you will develop confidence in covering gray.   Then step out of the box again as you learn about how to give back to those overlooked or undervalued in your community, and those with sensory sensitivity.  It’s a day to give you a powerful boost in your career.

About the Classes and Educators

Unorthodox Cutting - Dusty Rhode
Hair cutting is Dusty Rohde’s passion and this is proven in his work. Dusty is recognized as one of the most successful and influential educators in his specialty. His work is featured at Aveda Congress Festival, the Aveda Mid-America Show, countless photo shoots, and New York Fashion Week.  Dusty travels internationally to share his knowledge both on stage and in salon workshops. He has received training from some of the industry’s most acclaimed institutions, developed salon and advanced curriculum, and been integral in product development.  In 2018 Dusty founded RD “Real Designer” Scissors to fill a major industry void by developing and offering high quality haircutting scissors at attainable prices for the newest or most seasoned stylists.  Through Dusty’s years of integrity and passion to help other stylists develop their careers, RD has become one of the most sought after and fastest growing scissor brands in our industry since its inception.

Advanced Gray Coverage - Julie Hunkins
Julie Hunkin’s obsession with gray coverage began at Aveda in 2002 and she hasn’t stopped learning since then!  Julie hopes to share her knowledge of gray coverage with advanced colorists who want to push their skills to a new level of understanding!

Inclusive Hair Cutting Experiences for Sensory Sensitivity - Gina Gibson
Gina Gibson is an occupational therapist and the Sensory Inclusion Specialist at Fraser in Minneapolis, MN. Gina partners with organizations across Minnesota, including hair salons, to create more inclusive experiences for individuals with disabilities and their families.

The Stellar Kindness Project - Katie Stellar
