URGENT! DEREGULATION LOOMING

CONTACT LEGISLATORS NOW!

May 9, 2018

The Minnesota Legislature is less than two weeks to adjournment for the 2018 session.  There are pending issues yet to be resolved before that time which directly impact all practitioners!  Please take note of this alert and act now by calling key lawmakers below!

Background: The omnibus supplemental budget bill (SF 3656) is now before a conference committee.

  • This committee works out differences between house and senate passed versions.
  • The senate version is acceptable, but the house version is alarming!!
  • The house version contains deregulation of eyelash extension licensing.
  • The house version cuts the BCE budget by over $500,000 for the next year.

Please call all 10 conference committee members and leave the following message (sorry, emails tend to get lost and overlooked this time of session):

“Hello, my name is ____________, and I am a licensed _______________ (cosmetologist, esthetician, or nail tech) practicing in a salon in ____________ (town).  I am calling that you oppose the house language in the supplemental budget bill that eliminates eyelash licensing AND cuts the state cosmetology board budget by half a million dollars.  Licensing is critical to ensure public health and safety, as is a fully funded state board to help guarantee this overall mission as well.  The state board’s budget is already fully covered with the license fees we pay!  My phone number is ________.  Thank you.

The following 10 lawmakers need to be contacted before Friday May 11!

Senator Julie Rosen         651-296-5713                       Representative Jim Knoblauch         651-296-6612
