YOU DID! WE PREVAILED!

MINNESOTA LEGISLATIVE SESSION ADJOURNS—COSMETOLOGY VOICE PREVAILS!

May 21, 2018

The 2018 regular session of the Minnesota Legislature has now adjourned for the year.  Your response to our call for action earlier this month to contact key lawmakers was heard!  Thank you in helping MNSSPA counter legislation that would have begun the deregulation of eyelash extension services as well as cut the Board of Cosmetology budget by half a million dollars.

NEITHER OF THESE PROPOSALS ADVANCED IN THE END!

Language that would have repealed licensing for eyelash salons and managers had been included in an omnibus supplemental bill (HF 3656).  This bill also sought a $500,000 cut to the Minnesota Board of Cosmetology, whose budget is fully covered by your license fees.  However, both were eliminated in the final bill version which was passed and sent to Governor Dayton yesterday.

LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY MATTERS!

MNSSPA is the only voice for all cosmetology professionals at the Minnesota State Capitol.  Every year our industry is challenged with matters that can range from de-regulation, application of sales tax on services, increased license fees, or state board funding cuts to name a few.  In addition, MNSSPA interacts with the state board concerning their rulemaking authority to ensure we operate under common sense rules.

THANK YOU, MEMBERS!

Your membership is vital to MNSSPA’s ongoing ability to respond to these matters, while also promoting and representing the interests of all licensed practitioners.  Not a member, or know someone who isn’t?  Please join MNSSPA today and help continue our cause to safeguard your livelihood!
