My Favorite Go-To Product: Leave-In Conditioner

I’ve been a big believer in leave-in conditioners for over 40 years, and for good reason—they truly make a difference in the health and manageability of hair. Unlike heavy creams or rinse-out conditioners, leave-ins are lighter in weight, don’t cause buildup, and can be used on both wet and dry hair.

What sets them apart is their staying power. Leave-in conditioners continually hydrate long after application, offering benefits that regular conditioners can’t. They detangle, prevent breakage, improve elasticity, nourish, protect against color fading, control frizz, guard against heat, add shine, and make hair easier to style.

Think about it: when we apply hand or body lotion, we don’t rinse it off after a few minutes—we leave it on so it can absorb and moisturize. Shouldn’t our hair get the same treatment? That’s exactly why a leave-in is such a game-changer.

Ways to Use Leave-In Conditioner

  • Before styling: Apply to damp hair, focusing on the ends. Comb through with fingers, a wide-toothed comb, or a detangling brush to smooth knots without breakage.
  • Overnight treatment: Apply before bed to prevent dryness from heat or AC, lock in hydration, and repair damage while you sleep.
  • Swim protection: Use before swimming to shield hair from salt and chlorine, and reapply after to restore lost moisture.
  • Curl definition: Scrunch into damp curls or waves for softness, definition, and bounce.

With so many great leave-in conditioners on the market, you’re sure to find one in your favorite product line. Once you start using one, you’ll wonder how you ever styled without it!
