Attention SSPA Members with Individual Medical Policies

Attention SSPA Members with Individual Medical Policies - By Michael McGuire, ACBA, CES – Aflac.

This is a call to action!  If you have an individual medical policy and want to change, you need to make a decision by November 1st

The Blue Cross individual policies go away December 31st, with the exception of Blue Print policies from Blue Plus.    Blue Cross is withdrawing from the individual policy market.  103,000 Minnesota customers have to find a new carrier.  There is very limited capacity with the other carriers.

HealthPartners will only accept 7,000 new members for 2017.   They are terminating the state wide Compass open access network.  They are only offering the Peak network in the 11 county metro and St. Cloud which to the capacity of their facilities.  The 2017 rates are 50% higher.  HealthPartners is currently the market leader in rates and quality.

Medica will only accept 6,000 new members for 2017. Medica rates increased 66%.   Medica is no longer paying agents for new business.   If Medica is the best fit, we charge $50 to do the research and enroll you.

Preferred One is not offering individual new medical policies for 2017.

Ucare is only offering a Fairview System narrow network policy.  They have a 66 percent increase for 2017.  They are being acquired by the Fairview Health system.  This is an improvement as they currently have no financial rating.

There are five counties in Minnesota with No Viable individual policy insurnace options.   Minnesotacare, Medical Assistance and Group Policy participants are not affected by these changes.

Send me an email if you would like more information.
