A haircut is not complete without the added value of color.  It's all about understanding color placement and color direction according to the haircut.

UNDERSTANDING ASYEMMETRICAL GRADUATION HAIRCUTS - Raul Martez - 1.5 hour - 3:30pm-5pm - AiRE 1
At the conclusion of this class all attendees will have learned and will understand how to create any graduation haircut which in return will bring a new clientele and new income to the salon.

UNDERSTANDING ROUND SHAPES AND GRADUATION HANDS-ON HAIRCUTTING - Raul Martez - 4 hour - MONDAY, 10/8/18 - 9:00am-1:00pm
Graduation lives in the world of round shapes , triangle shapes and square to round shapes. This hands on class cutting class will help you understand not memorize how to go from long square shapes to short round shapes with a focus of precision and balance. 
Add on class - Additional fee of $149 required. Includes mannequin head. This class will be held at the Atrium, 2626 E 82nd Street, Main Level Training Room, Bloomington, MN 55425, just blocks from the Crowne Plaza AiRE.

A native New Yorker, RAUL MARTEZ first exposure to haircutting was his father’s barbershop. He launched his career in San Juan, Puerto Rico and quickly became an award-winning hair designer. Raul developed a passion for innovation and traveled to Central and South America where his hair design left an impact. He worked as a Master Educator for John Paul Mitchell System before becoming an independent stylist in the L.A. area.

In this 90-minute class you’ll learn how to transition your clients’ color from summer into fall/winter. Topics of demo/discussion include coloring “back to natural” in one step, replenishing, successful lowlighting strategies, and shadow rooting for added depth. This short class is full of pro tips!

KATHERINE LAUNDRY is a cosmetology graduate from Aveda Institute.  She recently opened her own salon in Sola Salons allowing her to be creative and show the care for her clients in the way she wants.  Katherine was mentored by a great stylist and friend and returns that kindness by sharing her knowledge with others.  Her interest in color possibilities steered her to become a specialist in creative color for her clients.  Katherine is also an educator for the Pravana beauty line and the Salon & Spa Professional Association, expanding her outreach to educate.

WHITNEY BASS With over a decade of experience in the beauty industry, Whitney’s true passion has always come alive when she’s had the chance to share her knowledge with both clients & fellow hair stylists.  Her resume of experience includes working behind the chair in different salon types, salon management, multi-unit salon leadership and technical & operations training for a few of the industry’s largest franchise corporations.  Currently she’s living out her longtime dream of owning her own salon studio as well as educating for SexyHair Concepts and the Salon & Spa Professional Association.  While fusing her talent for both hairdressing & devotion to education, she feels truly blessed to get to do what she loves.  She has her sights set on leaving a legacy in this field & helping other stylists do the same.  She looks forward to sharing the journey with you!

Erin Fitzgibbons

PERFECTING THE BOB - Erin Fitzgibbons - 1.5 hour - 9:30am-11am - AiRE 2

The focus of the class is to show three current bob haircuts and ‘no fail’ techniques that make cutting these looks easier, cleaner and more precise. 

ERIN FITZGIBBONS, a second generation hairdresser with 12+ years of professional experience, is a multi-talented person with strength in many areas.  Erin graduated cosmetology school with highest honors and as an independent stylist, quickly built a successful business, Hairapy by Erin.  She is one of only a few in MN who obtained a certification from the American Board of Certified Hair Colorists.  Erin’s first platform work was teaching the Martin Parsons Up Style curriculum and other special occasion styles at a variety of workshops, hair shows and at her former Cosmetology School.  With a prior background working in the fashion industry, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from UMD, Erin incorporates her expertise into her salon business.  Erin is known for creating gorgeous, healthy, multi dimensional hair color for her clients of all ages and updated, wearable haircuts her clients can easily style on their own.  Hairapy has become Hair Therapy for many women!  When we look good, we feel great! Erin is one of our newest SSPA team members, who by the way started out on our Students With Awesome Talent Team when she was in cosmetology school.

Brendan LaFrance

STRAIGHTEDGE SHAVING FOR BEGINNERS - Brendan LaFrance - 1.5 hour - 9am-10:30am - AiRE 3
In this class participants will be introduced to the art of straight razor shaving. I will teach the entire process from start to finish, as well as offer personal tips and tricks.

Participants will learn various ways to elevate their short men’s haircuts to the next level. They will be able to provide more detailed, quality haircuts for their clients.

BRENDAN LAFRANCE has over a decade of experience as a master barber and currently owns Tailor Made Barber Studio in Moorhead, MN. His passion is shown through his work and he believes education is vital to the hair industry as a whole.

The biggest risk to your career longevity is an ergonomic injury. This class will cover ergonomic issues associated with the salon industry. A discussion of the risk factors for injury and how to address them will help attendees protect themselves from potential musculoskeletal injuries.

Salon professionals are in a unique position to recognize the signs and symptoms of abuse in their clients and co-workers. Research shows that most battered women never call the police or go to a shelter; however they will talk about the abuse with someone they trust, such as their stylist. Recognize the signs of abuse and safely refer victims to help, salon professionals can become invaluable and influential community partners in the fight against domestic abuse.
