As promised, Governor Dayton has followed through and vetoed the omnibus state government finance bill.  That bill would have slashed funding for the Board of Cosmetology Examiners (BCE) by nearly 50%!  Thank you, Governor!

Negotiations for a new budget bill to fund various aspects of state government, including the Board of Cosmetologist Examiners (BCE), have now started between Governor Dayton and legislative leadership.  An agreement must be reached this week to avoid a potential shutdown of Minnesota state government by July 1.

Please take a moment and reach out to Governor Dayton with the following talking points:
•    Thank you for vetoing the state government finance bill.
•    Cutting the Cosmetology Board’s budget endangers the public’s safety.  Necessary inspections to address serious health matters regarding infection control and proper sanitation practices at salons would suffer and jeopardize Minnesota citizens.

•    Cosmetology is a service that must be properly regulated due to the chemicals and devices we use daily on clients.
•    All existing cosmetology license fees fully fund the current Cosmetology Board budget.
•    Licensees, like myself, accepted fee increases in 2015 to achieve the existing budget.  Reducing the Board’s budget is a disservice to this investment we’ve all made and agreed to.
•    Please fully restore existing funding to the Cosmetology Board for the next biennium in your current negotiations with House and Senate leaders.

Don’t forget to identify yourself, and your role within cosmetology (practitioner, educator, manager, etc.).  Please consider sharing this with clients and encourage their participation as well.

Please stay tuned for ongoing developments and an expanded list of additional contacts to pursue.

IMPORTANT: DO NOT send the same email you send to the Governor to key legislators.  It is important that you use the information from the Contact Key Legislators in the House and Senate Information page by following this link.

Thank you for your participation and immediate attention to this critical matter!
