About the Symposium

'Aesthetics on the Edge' is designed for estheticians who want to 'up their game' and receive quality education for their field of expertise.  4 hours of Professional Practice Continuing Education and/or 6 hours of instructor credit will be offered for those attending the Conference.  See below to register.


The Guest Artists

Elizabeth Elshaboury - Elizabeth has been practiced esthetics since 2004, specializing in medical based esthetics. She prides herself in continuing education to keep her kills sharp and up to date.  Elizabeth is certified in oncology esthetics, laser safety, body contouring, dermaplaning, successfully treating skin inflammations and other various services.  She has been a member of HealthPartners since 2012 working alongside many plastic surgeons, dermatologists and other valuable medical professionals.  One of her passions is to pass along information that she has to other esthetic professionals. 

Maureen Hines - Maureen owns and operates Aesthetic Therapies providing aesthetic treatments and laser and injectable treatments under physician direction. She trains laser operators and laser safety officers under National Council on Laser Certification. Maureen also is the director of Chispa de Salud, a medical mission in Guatemala.

Julie Evans - Julie Evans has been in the beauty industry for over 20 years. She started out behind the counter working as a makeup artist and counter manager for several cosmetic lines both in Minneapolis and Beverly Hills. She has a BA in Education from Saint Catherine University as well as a MA in Holistic Health Studies/ Complementary and Alternative Medicine, also from St. Kate’s. From 2010-2012, she received her Esthetics license from Saint Paul College, became CIDESCO certified and received her instructors license. Julie has been teaching at Saint Paul College since 2012, where she developed and currently teaches the Advanced Medical Setting Esthetics classes as well as the online classes for all cosmetology, nail and esthetics students.

Haley Durchschlag - 

Haley has been a licensed esthetician since 2006.She is NCEA certified and laser certified and has worked in doctors offices and medspas for the last 11 years.


About the Classes 

Keep Your Books Full - 90 minutes - Elizabeth Elshaboury

Attendees will learn to confidently convert consultations into future appointments by making simple changes and creating realistic expectations.   We will also go over ways to keep your heart full with simple community outreach ideas. 

STAYING RELEVANT IN AN EVER CHANGING AND GROWING INDUSTRY - 90 minutes - Maureen Hines

Staying current on new treatments and products requires information and education for use.  There is scientific and clinical data for treatments associated with valid results. Patients/clients are also using internet, social media and vendor events for information to educate themselves on the latest and greatest result they want. But do you know enough to provide these treatments? There are treatments which show a benefit. Are they worth the risk you take to provide them?


Dermaplaning: A safe and effective form of physical exfoliation - 90 minutes - Julie Evans

This 90-minute class will walk you through the indications, contraindications, tools, set-up, practice and procedure of a dermaplaning session and discuss the added value that dermaplaning can bring to your business. The class will include a live demonstration.

Understanding Stem Cells, Peptides Growth Factors and their Role in Skincare - 90 minutes - Haley Durchschlag

Haley has been a licensed esthetician since 2006.She is NCEA certified and laser certified and has worked in doctors offices and medspas for the last 11 years. 

What Does the Future Hold? - 60 minutes - Jim Hirst - SSPA Lobbyist and Rebecca Gaspard - MN Board of Cosmetology

Changes in Advanced Esthetics will be discussed and current and upcoming legislative action for the industry will be reviewed.
