BCE Tightens Requirements on Instructor Continuing Education
On February 10, 2009 the Minnesota Board of Cosmetologist Examiners announced a new program affecting cosmetology instructor continuing education reporting and approvals. The launch date of the NEW continuing education program will be April 1, 2009!
The BCE will be sending updates to all schools, providers, and instructors regarding the changes, so watch your mail box for complete information this next week.
New Program Highlights as posted on the BCE website:
- Course approval applications will be web based for the providers and submitted by email.
- Course approvals from the BCE will go directly to the providers email.
- Course attendance list must be complete within 30 days of the class, by the providers only.
- Instructors
- You will no longer need to submit classes taken after April 1, 2009. All approvals of your attendance will come directly from the CE Sponsor.
- Your license profile with the BCE will automatically update the amount of CE units you have earned after each class.
- The BCE recommends you still retain your certificates from your classes.
- IMPORTANT: Any classes taken prior to April 1, 2009, will still require the instructor to submit course completion paperwork. The BCE encourages instructors to submit these completions as soon as they can, rather than at renewal time.
Important Changes
- All CE classes will need to be reapproved. The BCE is starting this new program and in order to implement it practically and impartially all classes will need re-approval.
- All course approval applications must be submitted 30 days in advance of the class offering.
- Class attendance list must be submitted within 30 days after class offering.
- All classes must be pre-approved. No classes in any circumstance will be approved after being offered.
- All course approval requests are valid for only one occurrence.
