Cut It Out is a program sponsored by Clairol Professional, Southern Living at Home and the National Cosmetology Association. The statistics about Domestic Violence in the United States are alarming, and abuse against women in this country may be far more common than you realize. 

- Up to three million women are physically or sexually abused by their husbands or boyfriends each year.
- 31% of American women report being physically or sexually abused by their husbands or boyfriends at some point in their lives.
- 30% of Americans say they know a woman who had been physically abused by her husband or boyfriend in the last year.
- In a national survey of more that 6,000 American families, 50% of the men who frequently assaulted their wives also frequently abuse their children.
- Slightly more than half of female victims of domestic violence live in households with children under the age of 12.

Every 15 seconds a woman is abused by her most intimate partner. She could be your client or your colleague. Clairol Professional and the National Cosmetology Association (NCA) are proud to announce a partnership with Southern Living at Home on Cut It Out, a program of Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund dedicated to raising awareness of domestic abuse in the country. Cut It Out provides education to salon professionals and their clients about domestic abuse. In the salon industry, we often hear and see things other people do not and are often the first to see that a woman is abused. That is why we believe that salons provide an ideal environment for people to learn more about the issue of domestic abuse.

How can you, the salon professional, participate in eliminating domestic abuse in your community? Spread the word by distributing Cut It Out brochures in your salon reception areas and dressing rooms to raise awareness among clients and staff. The Cut It Out brochures are available to salons in sets of 25. Brochures are printed in both English and Spanish.
